BRITISH CRUISER TO BE SCRAPPED

LAST SURVIVOR OF RIVER PLATE ACTION

(Rec. .11 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 4. The Ajax (6985 tons), the last of the Royal Navy's three cruisers which destroyed the German pocket-battleship, Graf Spee. in the historic battle of the River Plate in December, 1939, will be scrapped. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty (Mr John Dugdale) told the House, of Commons that scrapping would begin next week. With the Ajax in the River Plate action were the Achilles, which was transferred to India last year and is now named the Delhi, and the Exeter, which was sunk during the Battle of the. Java Sea, in 1942. When it was suggested last year that the Ajax would be sold to the Chilean Government, there was an immediate public outcry.
