Suggested Migration To Commonwealth VIEWS OF SIR NORMAN ANGELL (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 14. The transfer of 1,500,000 Germans to countries of the British Commonwealth and the launching of “a veritable era of emigration” with tne support of the United States were advocated by Sir Norman Angell, the British author and international affairs expert. Sir Norman Angell told a meeting of , the Refugees Defence Committee that
Hie problem had been discussed with State officials in Washington and with key people in the United States Congress. , *
Sir Norman Angell is vice-president of the committee, which is a private organisation for the assistance of refugees.
He said that 9.000.000 Germans were living in the Western zones of Germany under sub-human and inhuman conditions. If steps were not taken to move the great mass of displaced persons they would become a deadly weapon for Soviet manipulation. “Emigration is the economic salvation of *he Western world,” he added.
