N.S.W. SUPPLIES OF COAL
SHORTAGE POSSIBLE AT CHRISTMAS SYDNEY, Oct. 13. The Joint Coal Board warns that a "black Christmas” is likely unless mine workers and managements make a supreme effort to win coal. New South Wales coal production for this year until last Friday was only 7.742.871 tons, compared with 9.061.666 tons for a similar period in the previous year. High production is now essential to build a reserve before the miners begin their three weeks' holiday in December. Since the coal strike there have been local stoppages, but the production rate has been higher than the average.
