RECOMMENDATIONS TO U.N. ASSEMBLY
ABOLITION OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

The committee also recommended the elimination of all discriminatory laws and practices contrary to the principles of the United Nations Charter. In addition, it called on the Trusteeship Council to examine any measure and make positive recommendations for abolishing discrimination in all trust areas.
The committee's decisions resulted from approval of a joint Cuban and Chinese icsolution. Britain and South Africa strongly opposed it, and France, Belgium, Australia, and Canada abstained.
The resolution also called for action by the Trusteeship Council in solving social problems, with special emphasis on migrant labour.
