FILM ON LIFESAVING
PRODUCTION IN CHRISTCHURCH As part of a Dominion-wide campaign to reduce the number of drownmgs. the New Zealand council of the Royal Life-Saving Society is producing an educational sound film in Christchurch. The production is intended to stimulate interest in the society's work and to establish throughout New Zealand a uniform interpretation of the handbook of instruction, issued by the headquarters of the society in London. The film is being shot by Mr Roy Evans, of Christchurch, and Mr Jack Breward, also of Christchurch, is responsible for the script, and is training those who are taking part in the film. The film, which runs for 15 minutes, will be screened extensively in the Dominion's post-primary schools. It is hoped that within the next two or three years it will bring about a uniformity of instruction, which has not been possible with other means. A team of girls from the Christchurch Girls' High School has been training since the beginning of the year to take part in the film. Through the courtesy of the Christchurch Citi' Council, the demonstrations in the water have been filmed in the Tepid. Baths, and shots of land drill were taken at the Girls' High School. Cooies of the film will be sent to the headquarters of the society in London, the Australian Federal Council of the society in Melbourne, and the National Film Library. If the film is approved by the headquarters of the society, it will be distributed throughout England. The film is being financed partly by the society and oartly by a special Government grant.
