PANDIT NEHRU IN U.S.
THREE WEEKS’ VISIT (Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 11. The Prime Minister of India (Pandit Nehru) arrived in Washington to-day on a three weeks’ visit to the United States as the guest of President Truman. Pandit Nehru’s party includes Sir Chintaman Deshmukh, the Indian Ambassador-at-Large for Financial Affairs.
Reuter says that Sir Chintaman Deshmukh's inclusion underlines possible financial and economic aspects of Pandit Nehru’s visit. Pandit Nehru, before leaving India, made it clear that he was visiting the United States not to seek loans, but primarily to weld closer relations between the United States and India.
The American press, in reporting the plans for Pandit Nehru’s visit, has emphasised India’s position as the United States’ most powerful potential ally in Asia after xhe conquest of China by the Communists.
