MR FORRESTAL’S SUICIDE
HOSPITAL ABSOLVED OF BLAME
(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 11. The United States Navy Board has absolved the naval service of negligence in the death of Mr James Forrestal, a former Secretary of Defence.
Mr Forrestal, who retired from his post in March, leaped to his death on May 22 from a high floor of a naval hospital in Bethesda. Maryland. He had been admitted to the hospital with “operational fatigue.” The Navy Board’s report said that Mr Forrestal’s behaviour in the hospital before his death was indicative of “mental depression.”
