The Associated Press says that Communist members of Finland’s Parliament have blocked an emergency law to prolong for two years the term of office of the 79-year-old President, Mr J. K. Paasikivi (above). His term of office will expire in March, 1950. All the other Parliamentary parties supported an extension, but the fivesixths majority which is needed could not be obtained against the 38 adverse Communist votes. — Helsinki, Oct. 12.
