PRESENTATION TO MR J. MANN

FORMER ASSISTANT-MANAGER OF BANK OF N.Z. A large and representative gathering of friends and business acquaintances met in the Chamber of Commerce building on Tuesday to make a presentation to Mr James Mann, who recently retired on superannuation from the position of assistantmanager of the Christchurch branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr Mann had been with the branch for almost 29 years. Mr F. Nicholls presented Mr Mann with a substantial cheque. Many speakers paid tributes to Mr Mann’s qualities as a banker. In reply Mr Mann discussed the many changes that had taken place in banking during his service in Christchurch. The Reserve Bank had been instituted. Import and exchange controls and the application of the Shops and Offices Act had all tended to make a banker’s duties more complicated. The taking over of the bank by the Government had afforded the customers an opportunity to show their loyalty to the institution. He confidently asserted that the change had not affected the conduct of the bank's business in any way.
