SUBSCRIPTION TO R.S.A.

< —_ DISCUSSION BY MEMBERS A move to alter the rules of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association by deleting a provision that subscriptions should not be altered except by a postal ballot of financial members and substituting that the subscription should be altered at a general meeting was defeated by a narrow margin at a half-yearly meeting of the association last evening.

The president (Mr H. E. Batchelor) said that extra finance was needed, and the suggestion provided an easy way of obtaining an increase. A postal ballot could not be held until just before the next annual meeting, and it would mean that another year would pass before the subscription could be increased.

Most of the members who spoke against the proposal contended that all members should have, a right to say what the subscription should be. and others said that if the subscription was increased there would be a decline in membership and the association might not be in any better financial position. A notice of motion that the subscription of 10s a year should be raised to 15s. to take effect for subscriptions payable for the membership year end ing in March, 1951, was withdrawn.
