MR SEMPLE WANTS NO COMMUNISTS

LABOUR FOR ELECTRIC POWER SCHEMES

(New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 7.

In the next six months 700 riiore men would be required for the Roxburgh power scheme, said the Minister of Works (Mr R. Semple) in the House of Representatives this evening. There was a good type of man already on the job and they were working hard, and he did not want them to be polluted by anyone who leaned on a shovel and preached Communism.

“If I had my way I would not have a Communist working on a hydroelectric scheme,” said the Minister. Mr R. M. Algie (Opposition, Remuera): Well, you are the boss. Can’t you stop them?

Mr Semple: We have stopped a lot of them. They will go out on their lugs if they start any trouble.
