DISORDERS AT CONCERT
FORMER SOLDIERS BLAMED STATEMENT BY PAUL ROBESON (Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 5. Paul Robeson to-day blamed former servicemen for the disorders which followed his concert at Peekskill yesterday. A final survey showed that 145 persons were injured, most of them only slightly, by rocks and bottles. Robeson said: “All the force came from the other side. The tremendous discipline of the working classes stopped a tremendous massacre. They could have protected themselves, but the police would have shot them down.” Mr Vincent Boyle, a spokesman for the former servicemen who staged the protest parade, said: "We believe the' sponsors of the rally or concert incited the violence. Robeson appeared with the protection of 3000 storm troopers, the majority of whom were armed with baseball bats, golf clubs, screwdrivers, and other dangerous weapons.”
