VICEREGAL Yesterday his Excellency the Gover-nor-General held an investiture at the Durham street Art Gallery. In the afternoon the Governor-General paid a visit to the R.N.Z.A.F. station. Wigram. At 5 p.m. his Excellency was entertained by the Canterbury Officers’ Club and later was the guest of honour at a Tin Hat Club tattoo. Yesterday afternoon Ladv Freyberg visited the Sutherland Glove Factory. Later her Excellency visited the Overseas League sewing guild and in the evening she was the guest of the Canterbury Women’s Club. Mr Olaf G. Bjurstrom. the actingconsul for Sweden, returned to Wellington last evening after his first visit to Christchurch, during which he visited the New Zealand Industries Mr K. M. Doull has been appointed assistant lecturer in zoology at Canterbury Agricultural College. Lincolnsubject to the approval of the School of Agriculture. Messrs G. Hamilton (a vice-presi-dent). G. W. Ferens and Rocke O’Shea (liaison officer in Wellington) will repre ®® nt the South Island Motor Union annual conference of the North island Union at Hawera on Septemcr.,ls_and 16. The president of the Soutn Island Union (Mr W. R. Carey) may also attend. Sympathy with the relatives of the K ® v ’* K. Archer, a former member of the board, was expressed by tne Christchurch Fire Board last evening-
