MR LANGSTONE’S RESIGNATION

CONSIDERATION IN ELECTORATE

SOME PARTY MEMBERS RESIGN

(New Zealand Piess Association./ AUCKLAND, July 9.

More individual resignations from the organisation of the Labour Party in the Roskill electorate have followed the resignation of Mr F. Langstone, M.P., from the Parliamentary Labour Party. They include those of Mr A. I. Keesing, chairman of the Roskill branch and party organiser for the electorate.

All six branches of the party in Koskill are likely to consider the situation caused by Mr Langstone’s decision. The question has already been raised at meetings at Three Kings and Roskill and is to come before the Waikowhai members on Thursday evening. The Three Kings branch decided to disaffiliate from the party. A different view was taken by the Roskill branch.

A statement issued to-day on behalf of the new chairman (Mr W. D. Hunt) said that four members, including the chairman (Mr Keesing), had tendered their resignations from the Labour Party on the grounds of support for Mr Langstone. The resignations were accepted with regret and unanimous resolutions were then carried reaffirming confidence in the Labour Government and assuring utmost support in the General Election.

Appreciation was expressed of the services of Mr Langstone as member for the district.

The meeting was attended by about 18 members.
