CHRISTCHURCH AND TIMARU TECHNICAL COLLEGES From Gur Own Reporter TIMARU, August 9. Although the players handled well and showed superior speed in the backs, Christchurch Technical College were beaten 14-3 in a match against Timaru Technical College, at Timaru, to-day. Late in the second spell, following a passing rush from a line-out in the Timaru twenty-five, M. Courtney outpaced a number of opponents to spore the only try for Christchurch. , •* The packs were’ fairly , evenly matched with Christchurch getting most of the ball. Although Christchurch won 18 out of 31 set scrums, the hooking was slow, and effective spoiling tactics by the Timaru breakaways broke up passing rushes. Christchurch won 16 out of the 25 line-outs. L. Hardy, R. Kirton, and R. Teale were the best of the Christchurch pack. The referee was Mr F. Morgan.
The Christchurch Technical College A basketball team beat Timaru Technical College A, 17-14, in a fatf. close game. Timaru led 5-4 at half-time. Both sides handled well and played excellent basketball. The referee was Mrs M. Berry. In the Same between the B teams, Christchurch andled better and had an advantage in height. Christchurch led 10-3 at halftime. and went on to win 21-10. The referee was Mrs M. Berry.
