RAIN IN WESTERN EUROPE
FLOODS IN SOUTHERN ENGLAND CLOUDBURST IN NORTHERN LONDON LONDON, July 17. Rain fell over most of drought-dried Western Europe to-day. Thunderstorms brought flooding and traffic hold-ups in Southern England. Firemen, telephone linesmen, and road engineers were called to clear the havoc caused by a cloudburst in northern London. A trolley-bus caught fire after being struck by lightning in London. The bus was crowded, but all the passengers escaped safely. A 10-roomed nouse at Harlow, Essex, was burned out after lightning had struck a chimney stack, setting fire to the thatched roof. Lightning which struck a house near Neede (Holland) killed the owner. Another flash set fire <.O a greengrocer’s shop, which was burned out. Snow and an Arctic wind in Northern Sweden broke the heat wave of the last month.
