HEALTH CAMP
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
Arrangements for the visit of the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Frevberg) and Lady Freyberg to Glenelg children’s health camp were made at a meeting of the health camp committee last evening with the chairman (Mr George Bums) presiding. Their Excellencies have consented to visit the camp on Monday. August 8, at 2.15 p.m. Mr J. Wyn Irwin and Mr J. Minson (for the school and playground subcommittees) reported that the municipal nurseries would supply wellgrown trees for planting at Glenelg and it was decided that these should be planted on Saturday, August 13. They also reported on suitable sites for playground equipment and on plans for fencing. The secretary was instructed to write to the Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs) asking if he could be present at Glenelg on September 17 or 24 to perform the ceremony of opening the new school building. A tender for painting the .roof of the camp was accepted. A generous donation from Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon and a gift of about two and a half chains of fencing netting from the N.Z. Fence and Gate Works (Mr F. G. Ulrich) were received with thanks.
Follow-up reports of children who had been in camp a year ago were received. With a few exceptions the children had continued to improve in health and weight since their stay in camp. In a few cases where the children had not greatly increased in weight since their discharge from camp it was noted that the home conditions were not good.
