NEW ZEALAND GIRL IN TELEVISION
MISS BERYL MCMILLAN The first New Zealand girl to face the television cameras and microphones in London is Miss Beryl McMillan, of Wellington.
The only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. McMillan, formerly of Christchurch and now of Oriental Bay, Wellington, Miss McMillan took a keen interest in the Wellington Repertory Society before going oversea. When she was 18 years of age she took the part of Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet,” which was produced by the Wellington Repertory Society a few years ago.
Miss McMillan, who has been in London for about a year, produced a programme for the children’s session, showing aspects of life in the Dominion. It was illustrated with moving films, stills, and maps, and concluded with a song by the Maori bass, Ima Te Wiata. The object of Miss McMillan’s visit to England was to do radio work. She has had several parts in serials, and has also had two scripts accepted by the 8.8. C., which were 10-minute talks describing her amusing experiences and impressions on her arrival in England. Miss McMillan was born in Christchurch 23 years ago. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Adelaide Mary, only daughtei* of Mrs Wise. Riccarton, and the late Mr E. T. Wise, Ellesmere, to Charles Stewart, only son of Mr and Mrs C. Page, Courtenay.
