The Attorney-General (Mr H. G. R. Mason) and Mrs Mason, returned to Auckland from Suva by’air yesterday. Mr Mason said he had benefited from his month’s holiday.—(P.A.)
The Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. A. K. Warren) was elected chairman of the National Council of Churches in New Zealand at the annual meeting held recently in Lower Hutt. The Rev. L. J. Boulton Smith was elected vice-chairman, and the secretary (the Rev. Alan A. Brash) whose first term of three years expires at the end of 1949, was appointed for a further three years. Sir William Halcrow and Mr J. P. Thomas, London consulants, who have been invited by the Government to suggest improvements to the railway system in the Auckland metropolitan area, are expected to arrive in New Zealand on September 27. Because of other engagements they will not be able to spend more than two months in New Zealand.—(P.A.)
Mr B. L. Dallard, Under-Secretary of Justice, is at present visiting Christchurch. He is accompanied by Mr N. C. O. Butcher, advisory officer, of the head office of the Justice Department.
