COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE
Sir—ln printing ipy letter dated May 8, 1949, you changed the heading from “Youths Impulsiveness” to the qne above; therefore “E-W.’s” reply had little bearing on its subject. Also, through a mistake an my part, the quotation from Vera Brittain should have read in the last line . . . >‘As ardently and sepselessjy as the youth qf 1914.” I contend that those whp clamour for compulsory military serVice do not believe in freedom but dictatorship; nor can it be said that they have any sincere belief in the doctrine of Chrjs|. but are simply endeavouring to justify their own ideas and existence.—Yours, etc., Oxford.
