SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM
Sir, —Norman Gray is dead right. Mr Holland has certainly put his party on the spot by dubbing Communism and Socialism “twin evils,” and then outlawing only one of the twins, But those of us who have kept a close watch on political trends have known for some time that a Nationalist victory would spell the end of free elections, as we know them in this country. I am more concerned with my personal position. As a Socialist with a Government job. Mr Holland promises to take away my livelihood. Socialism is the logical outcome of the British peoples’ struggle for freedom. If Mr Holland shuts his eyes to this, be and his one-party government will find themselves up against a pretty hefty underground movement.—Yours, etc., VARIAN J, WILSON. May 21, 1949.
