200 ARRESTS IN UGANDA
EFFORTS TO SUPPRESS RIOTING (Rec. 7 p.m.) NAIROBI. May 4. More than 200 arrests have been reported from Uganda, where the authorities have taken severe measures against an outbreak of rioting. *New incidents reported to-day were centred in Masaka, where rioters attacked a police patrol which opened fire, killing one rioter. In London to-day, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Colonies (Mr D. R. Rees-Williams) said that the Governor of Uganda (Sir John Hall) had appointed a commissioner to report on the disturbances in Kampala on April 25, when attacks were made on chiefs and workers, and five rioters were shot dead.
