HUMAN RIGHTS IN EAST EUROPE
U.S. CONFERRING WITH OTHER NATIONS (Rec: 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 4. The Secretary of State (Mr Dean Acheson) sail to-day that the United States was conferring with other nations to compel Bulgaria, Hungary, and Rumania to abide by the human rights pledges in their peace treaties. He said that the three countries had rejected United States charges that they were violating the peace treaties. Action by the United States to invoke the peace treaty provisions for the Settlement of disputes was imminent. Mr Acheson added that the United Nations resolution on the trials of church leaders in Hungary and Bul-‘ garia was an indication of the general support throughout the world for the United States’ action.
