ACCOMMODATION IN HOTELS

“NO DECLINE IN STANDARD” (New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 4. There would be nd decline in the standard of hotel accommodation, said the secretary of-the national council of the Licensed Trade of New Zealand (Mr Percy Coyle) to-day, discussing the decision of the Price Tribunal on hotel tariffs. He did nbt agree with remarks reported to have been made by the secretary of the Dunedin Licensed Victuallers’ Association (Mr J. J. Hall) that “As the Price Tribunal insists that the accommodation section of hostels be run at a loss no improvement can be expected in the standard of accommodation.” Mr Coyle said there was no desire on the part of licensees to see the standard fall. They wanted to improve it, and had it not been for the postwar problems of staff, labour, and materials there would already have been a noticeable improvement in the standard compared with even a few years ago. In ahy case, he felt certain that the new Licensing Control Commission would ensure that the standard did not decline
