OAMARU CLUB Gay Note, a -consistent performer with 10 minor placings to his credit this season, may win the R. A. McDowell Handicap,, the main event at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s meeting to-morrow. A five-year-old son of Nelson Eddy and Rainstorm, Gay Note, which has 'Some fast times to his credit, is trained at Tinwald by C, M. Laing for Mr C. Smith. Most opposition to Gay Note 'may come from Brynawelon, Aqua Lady, and Tutta Bella. The winner of the St. Clair Handicap on the first day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting, Byrnawelon was sent out favourite on the place machine for the Pacific Handicap on the second day of the meeting last Saturday, but he was beaten out of the money after breaking at the start. Usually a good beginner, Brynawelon should be prominent all the way in the R. A. McDowell Handicap. Aqua Lady has shown splendid form for P. G. O’Reilly, who trains her at Rakaia, to be placed in 14 of her 19 races this season. A good performer on grass tracks, she must be conceded a good chance to-mdrrow. A well -grown four-year-old gelding by Springfield Globe from Arietta, Demetrius should eventually win his way to the best classes. Despatch, which has raced well for a win and four minor placings in • his last five starts, gave a splendid display at his last start to finish second to Lyceum in 4min 21 4-ssec ih the Liverpool Handicap on the third day of the Easter meeting at Addington. On that form, he must be respected in the Empire HandiIs'laburn Lass has raced well in Southland to gain four wins and fivo minor placings for Mr A. Crossan this season.
