BOY HAS LUCKY ESCAPE
TUNNEL CAVES IN “The Press” Special Service
PALMERSTON NORTH. April 20. A Palmerston North boy, Arthur Lewis, aged 11. had a narrow escape from death last Monday when the roof of a t.unnel he had constructed into the bank of the Mangaone stream collapsed and buried him.
Another boy rushed for help, and Mr J. A. Smith, who was working on a house 200 yards away, uncovered the boy by scooping away the earth with his hands. Lewis was released in an advanced state of asphyxiation and artificial respiration was given. Lewis suffered shock, an injured back, and a wound on the temple made by a knife he was carrying. FALL IN HOT POOL “The Press” Special Service ROTORUA, April 20. V A visitor to the Whakarewarewa thermal reserve yesterday fell into a hot ' pool and was extensively scalded on the body and legs. He is Mr Sydney McGillivray, aged 43, married, a clerk, of Rotorua. He was admitted to the Rotorua Hospital.
