SPREYDON DOMAIN
= Sir,—l wish to protest against the - decision of the City Council’s reserves 3 department to build a residence in the J Spreydon Domain. I wonder how ’ many of the persons who signed the ’ so-called petition know anything of ’« the history of the Spreydon Domain. 1 Certainly not any of the cricketers who I have reason to. believe were canvassed on the field. I .understand that many years ago residefits of Spreydon combined to purchase the ground and presented it to the council for a playing, not -a residential area. Also, along with many other residents of Domain terrace, I am disgusted by the condition in which the sides of the street have been left, after the removal of tidy lawns by the council a few months ago.—Yours, SENTIMENTAL TOMMY. February 15, 1949. [“When the City Council assumed control of this domain, together with its liabilities, the playing area comprised approximately four acres,” said the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast). "The present area is nearly 18 acres. The council is of the opinion that a resident caretaker is essentia] to the proper supervision of the domain and the hall situated upon it.”]
