CIVIC CENTRE
Sir,—l venture one suggestion. Instead of the City Council’s spending a great deal of money on' acquiring and demolishing much property, in a part of Christchurch that could never be a real "centre” to the city, why not make good use of Victoria square? Bv building a well designed and dignified Town Hall on the south-west-ern half of the Square, with itg frontage on Victoria street, and placing all the necessary chambers and offices round the edge of the other, northeastern half, and leaving a grassed courtyard with the Bowker fountain in the centre, it seems to me that we could achieve a Civic Centre that Christchurch could be proud of.— Yours, etc., CIVIC.
