M. HOLLAND RIDES WELL Superb riding .by M. Holland was the highlight of the dirt-track meeting held at Aranui on Saturday night. In addition to winning all five events, for which he entered, Holland made a successful attempt on the mile record for the track. His time was 82sec, which is 4-ssec better than that set by T. Redmond a week ago. Almost all of the evening was taken up by preliminary heats for the Canterbury championship, in which three groups of four riders, all riding from scratch, each ran in four heats ort a points basis. The* four top riders, Holland, Cunningham, Redmond (12 points) and Lamport (9), will take part in the final next week. During the fourth championship heat, an accident occurred in which both Hawkins and Rhodes came down. Hawkins fractured a collar-bone, and Rhodes, regarded as a leading contender for the championship, was also prevented from racing in later heats by a damaged machine.
