BAND CONTEST RESULTS

Sir, —The lethargic method adopted by 3YA in transmitting the results of the band contest now being held at Auckland is very exasperating to those interested and cannot be too severely condemned. At present it is 11.30 p.m. before definite information is given out. There is a release at midday, which interests no one, as it is stale news and should be put over first thing in the morning; then comes a long wait till nearly midnight, though solos, trios, etc., are competed for during the day and the results should be given out no later than 6 p.m.—Yours, O. M. BRUNDALL. February 17, 1947. [The station manager, 3YA, Mr J. F. Skedden, to whom this letter was referred, states that results were broadcast at 12.33, 6.40, and 11.15 p.m. daily. The morning and afternoon events were covered at 6.40 p.pi., the evening results at 11.15 p.m., and a.t 12.33 p.m. next day the evening results were repeated for the benefit of those who had not heard them previously. In addition to the results, recordings of the five leading bands in the hymn test were broadcast the evening after the event, and other winning bands and soloists on the following Sunday at 2 p.m. and Monday at 8.15 p.m. A further programme of contest recordings is scheduled for Sunday next at 2 p.m.]
