DUNEDIN CLUB

RACING

EXCELLENCY FAVOURED IN MAIN RACE SMALL FIELDS IN SOME EVENTS The Dunedin Jockey Club will make a start to-day with its autumn meeting, which will be concluded next Saturday. Some of to-day’s fields are disappointing, but there will be a further thinning out on the second day, when some of the horses will have gone north to fulfil their engagements at Trentham. _ The clash with Trentham has had an effect on the Riccarton support for the Dunedin meeting. The contingent to go south from here numbers 12, made up of Robin Redbreast, Robinfaye, Trident, Broie, Puck, Cipher, Chord, Tuatea, Laindon, Money Lender, Swayup, Magnaform, and Military Chief. Although General Argosy and Ned Kelly had engagements at the meeting, their trainer, L. Cavalier, found it necessary, owing to shortage of labour at his stable, to abandon the trip.

S. Barr had to cancel the visit of Bowling Green because of a bruised heel. Lord Roland and Lady Melrose will not start to-day.

Magnaform has two engagements today, and C. G. Humphries had not made a decision, when he went south, between the Otago and the St. Andrew’s Handicaps. After heavy rain on Wednesday night, the track at Wingatui should be in excellent order to-day. The weather yesterday was cool and showery, and the forecast is for similar conditions to-day. Riding engagements for to-day have been made as follows:—A, J. Stokes: Milly Mandy, Chord. Tuatea, Trident, also a two-year-old from W. E. Hancock’s Wingatui stable. C. C. Stokes: Robin Redbreast.
