AGE BENEFIT
Sir, —“Nemo” is altogether misleading. I, too, live alone and considered taking a boarder. On making inquiries at the Social Security Department I was told that up to 25s a week for a boarder was not considered income, so that as one is allowed £1 a week income as well as pension “Nemo’s” mother should be able to charge 45s a week for her boarder without interfering with her age benefit. At all times I find the Government very fair in my dealings with it, so. there is no need for a change.— Yours, etc., v BE FAIR. Fairlie, February 23, 1949. Sir, —I agree with "Nemo.” I can say to board a person with plain, wholesome food costs more than 25s weekly, what with electricity, washing, bed linen, etc. I thought ‘‘Nemo’s” letter very sensible.—Yours, etc., FED UP. February 23, 1949.
