HOUSE POSSESSION CLAIM
UNUSUAL OBJECTION BY TENANT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, February 24. ' An unusual objection to an_application for possession fff a tenanted property was offered in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court to-day. The alternative accommodation being offered was stated to be too big. The application was by the Post and Telegraph Department, for possession of a house in Waitoa road. Hataitai, which it intends to demolish to make way for a telephone exchange. The department offered the tenant a flat over the Seatoun Post Office. Counting a detached room, the flat included four bedrooms. The house at Haitaitai has only two bedrooms. The tenant’s counsel submitted that it was fantastic that accommodation sufficient for a family of four or five should be occupied by a widow. The Magistrate (Mr J. H. Thompson. S.M.) held that, while this was a novel point, he had a Labour Department certificate holding that the alternative accommodation was suitable. He made an order that the applicant be given possession of the Hataitai house by March 12.
