Several new members had joined and donations to the extent of £3O had been received since the previous meeting, the secretary reported to a meeting of the executive of Heritage (Canterbury). Grants had been approved towards the cost of the fees for a boy attending college for purchasing another boy an outfit of clothes, for music tuition fees for two girls, and to enable a boy to attend Canterbury Agricultural College. Train fares were arranged for two children to enable .them to attend Papanui Technical College and assistance was given to a boy attending Waitaki High School. Mrs Mackay, the welfare officer, was given power to act in finding temporary help in a home during the mother’s absence in hospital. The health and recreation committee reported that a total of 74 children has been provided with holidays at various places.
At the invitation of the management of Wirth’s Circus about 130 children attended a performance of the circus.
