GORSE AT MOUNT SOMERS
REPLY BY STATE ADVANCES CORPORATION “My attention has been called to a letter jn your correspondence columns of the issue of the twenty-fourth instant signed By ‘Disgusted’ complaining, of broom and gorse growing m the centre of Mount Somers township,” writes Mr D. S. Hamilton, manager of the State Advances Corporation, in a letter to the editor of “The Press.” “The letter apparently was referred to Mr R. L. Lindsay, county engineer of the Ashburton county, who stated that the State Advances Corporation had been written to, asking it to take steps to have the gorse and broom removed a once., “My comments on Mr Lindsay's reply are as follows:—(1) No such letter has been received by the State Advances Corporation up to the time of writing. (2) The piece of land in question is not owned by the State Advances Corporation. Therefore, it has no responsibility for the clearing of the gorse and broom.” [The reference by Mr Lindsay was amended by him, before publication, in a statement to the Ashburton office of “The Press.” The amendment, in which “Department of Housing Construction” replaced “State Advances Corporation,” unfortunately went astray ,J
