STOWAWAY RESCUED ON POLISH SHIP

JOURNEY FROM DANZIG TO MANCHESTER (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 23. Hearing tappings. Manchester dockers worked for six hours to rescue a bearded and almost unconscious stowaway, believed to be a Pole, from the hold of a timber-laden ship which arrived from Danzig yesterday. Tappings were first heard after the ship had passed Kiel, but they became weaker each day. The man was found in a pocket, with only a few inches in which to move, between a bulkhead and timber. Reuter says he must have been there at least 14 days.

Chinese Deported from Malaya.—A total of 573 deported Chinese sailed for South China ports from Singapore yesterday. This is the biggest shipment of deported Chinese so far and 700 more are expected to leave shortly. —Singapore, Feb. 22.
