HUMAN ASHES STOLEN
Chinese Family’s Loss SECOND BASKET UNTOUCHED
A casket containing the ashes of a Chinese woman has been taken from a room at the back of a fruit shop in Armagh street, apparently by someone who did not realise what it held.
The loss of the casket was discovered yesterday morning by Miss Irma Lowe, of the Canton Fruit Company, who last saw the casket about a fortnight ago. The casket contained the ashes of her mother, who died last ysar, and it was kept in a room at the back of the premises beside another casket containing the ashes of Miss Lowe’s father. The latter casket was not touched. It was the intention of Miss Lowe’s brother to .take both caskets to China this year so that the ashes, according to Chinese custom, could return to the land of their ancestors. The trip had to be postponed because of the civil war in China.
The casket of ashes can be of no value to anyone, but it is of great sentimental value to the Lowe family, who hope that it will be found or returned.
