PRESBYTERIAN SCHOOL
GIFT OF AUCKLAND PROPERTY
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 23. A residence known as “Roselle,” in Shore road, Remuera, one of the most stately of Auckland's old homesteads, has been given by its owner and occupier, Mr J. Martyn Wilson, for use as a preparatory school for boys. The property has been transferred to the St. Kentigern Trust Board, which was founded recently under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church to establish Presbyterian schools for boys, both preparatory and secondary, in Auckland.
“Roselle” was built 71 years ago by the late Mr J. Wilson one of the original senior proprietors of the “New Zealand Herald.” Constructed throughout of brick and concrete, it consists of two storeys and a tower. Although built in the old tradition, it has been thoroughly modernised. The homestead stands in the midst of 14 acres of land on a promontory which commands a magnificent panoramic view of Hobson Bay. It has extensive lawns and gardens, and there will be ample space for playing grounds.
Messrs V. C. Lawn. C. G. McKellar. and P. S. Foster. Dr. W. G. Rich, and Mrs T. Green will represent the North Canterbury Board at the Hospital Boards’ Association conference in Wellington on May 4 and 5.
