SHEFFIELD SHIELD
(Rec. 12.30 a.m.) BRISBANE. Feb. 22. Queensland beat South Australia by seven wickets in their Sheffield Shield match. A solid innings of 141 not out by Langley enabled South Australia to recover, but the Queenslanders batted brilliantly to score 230 runs in 147 minutes for an outright win. Scores:—South Australia, first innings, 177; second innings. 386 (McLean 41, Langley not out 141; Johnson three for 71. Raymer four for 104). Queensland. first innings, 335; second innings. 230 for three wickets (Brown 77. Morris 108). Hundreds Killed in Collapse of Wall. —Several hundred beggars were killed while they were sitting beside a wall 24 feet high outside the Poor Law Institute at Cidnde Daprin. Cape Verde Islands, eating their free soup. The wall suddenly collapsed on them. More than 360 bodies have been recovered from the debris. About 98 feet of the wall crumbled.—Lisbon, February 21.
