NEW STARTING GATE FOR SPRINTERS
(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 21. American athletic officials are enthusiastic about the success of a newstarting gate for sprinters which was used for the first time in the indoor championships at Madison Square Garden. They are willing to lend other countries the idea with a view to its universal adoption. Mr Dan Ferris secretary of the Amateur Athletic Union, said it would have to be seen in other countries before they would think of adopting it. Mr Ferris said that athletes liked the gate because they found they did not have to be nervous about whether they were going to beat the starter or the starter was going to beat them. He added that the gate would be used in the American outdoor championships this summer.
