CENTENNIAL GAMES
CLASH WITH CRICKET FIXTURE A meeting of the centennial games committee would be held next week, and the clash between tne programme for the games and the Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Otago would be discussed then, spid Mr R. C. Saunders, chairman of the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association, at a meeting of the committee last evening. Mr Saunders said he had spoken to Mr T. H. Langford, the public relations officer. It seemed that the games committee did not wish to push cricket out. but had not realised that cricket had no charge ground other than Lancaster Park. Mr Langford had suggested that a cricket sub-commit-tee attend his committee’s meeting. They wanted their overseas athletes to make their first appearance at Christchurch: The games committee was in a fairly awkward spot. Mr Saunders said he had told Mr Langford that if the dates for the Plunket Shield match were changed the whole programme \ as disorganised. However, it might be possible to come to some arrangement. Messrs Saunders. D. A. Colville, and W. J. V. Hamilton were appointed a sub-committee to attend the games committee’s meeting.
