EMPIRE GAMES
ACCOMMODATION FOR ATHLETES USE OF PAPAKURA CAMP OFFERED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 22. An offer of Papakura Military Camp for the accommodation of athletes and officials visiting Auckland for the 1950 British Empire Games was made by the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones) in a letter received by the organising committee for the games. The offer was made in reply to a request to the Minister. The Minister indicated that the Army Department would make the camp available, and would also arrange for the provision of rations on a scale specified by the committee. Stores, bedding and dining facilities would also be provided, and assistance would be given with stores staff. The organising committee would be required to provide cooks, orderlies, waiters and cleaning staff. Charges would be made for rations, hire of buildings and equipment, and for the cost of electric power and gas.
