"TOUCH AND GO”

Sir,—Would some authority on modern art explain the real meaning of the very problematical picture entitled “Touch and Go,’’ by Bertram Booker, forming part of the Canadian Exhibition in the Armagh Street Gallery? It is obvious that the dangerous angles in which the objects are presented means that the slightest displacement is “touch and go’’ for all; it seems to be with the modern States and peoples of to-day. Is the picture a political allegory? To me, externally, the picture shows the heart of a tree which has; been subjected to some obstructive or destructive agency. Will someone enlighten us upon its true meaning?—Yours, etc., KATHLEEN HILL. February 22, 1949.
