STOCK SALE

TINWALD Because of the ewe fair which will be held at Ashburton next week, there was a double market in the fat sheep sale at the Tinwald yards yesterday. Few lambs were entered, but there were good entries of wethers and ewes. Prices for wethers were firm, the top being 50s id for a pen of seven sold on account of L. G. Grice. Tinwald. A pen of four realised the same price. Top price for ewes was 4Js Id and for lambs 49s Id. Medium quality wethers made to 42s 6d, good quality from 43s to 46s 6d, and prime quality from 47s to 50s Id. Light-weight ewes realised upto 19s fid, good quality from 20s to 21s 6d, prime quality from 22s to 23s lOd, and maiden ewfk from 42s 7d to 47s Id. Store cattle: heifer calves to £5 3s, bulls to £9 10s, empty cows £3 to £6 7s 6d. The penning of fat/sheepcomprised two full races of fat ewes and wethers. Quality ranged from light and unfinished to prime heavy. In the ewes values held firm for all qualities. The store sheep entry was made up of lambs. The demand was for very forward sheep. Prices were:—fat lambs, best 35s to 38s lOd, medium 33s to 34s fid, light 28s to 325; fat sheep, best fat wethers 45s to 49s lOd, medium 42s to 44s 7d, light 35s to 40s: fat ewes (extra good) 32s to 35s lOd, good 28s to 31s 9d. medium 24s to 275, light 20s to 235. Fat sheep values were dcwn by at least 2s a head at the Lomeville sale to-day. There was a full yarding, some extra good wethers being included, but the demand was easier than last week. Fat cattle were also easier. The sto»-e cattle and sheep market was steady. The big yarding of store sheep included numbers from the north. In the fat cattle section cattle of mixed quality were forward. Although . values were not up to those of last week, the sale was considered to be satisfactory. Heavy-weight bullocks realised from £22 10s to £23 10s; medium, £2O 10s to £2l 10s; handy-weight, £l9 to £2O; lightweight, £l6 10s to £l7 10s; extra good heifers, to £2l 10s; medium, £l6 10s to £18; small and light-weight sorts, £l3 10s to £l5; good quality young cows, to £lB 12s 6d; medium quality, £l4 10s to £l6; light-weight, £l2 to £l3 10s; aged sorts, £9'to £lO 10s: RANGIORA The largest yarding of stock for some time was forward at the weekly stock sale at Rangiora yesterday. Most stock sold readily, but a yarding of 300 store lambs found no demand and was not sold. The following were the , prices :—Pigs: Weaners, lJ3s to 28s. Sheep: Two-tooth wethers, 33s 9d; four, six, and eight-tooth ewes. 265. Cattle: Fourth calver with calf at foot, £l6; five months old heifer, £6 15s; yearling heifers, £9 5s to £lO 4s.
