ARMISTICE FOR PALESTINE
ONE CLAUSE SAID TO BE IN DISPUTE
APPROVAL BY EGYPT AWAITED
(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 21. It is reported from Rhodes that the Jews have completely approved the draft of an Israeli-Egyptian armistice, which has been flown to Tel Aviv, but that the Egyptians have withheld approval of a disputed clause on the future status of Beersheba, the Jewishheld capital of the Negeb. It is expected that haggling over Beersheba will go on for a day or two. The main points of the draft are believed to be: (1) The present front lines, with a few exceptions, would be "frozen,” (2) Almost the whole of Gaza coastline would remain in Egyptian hands. (3) The Israelis would keep their forces in the eastern Negeb facing Transjordan until a settlement was reached with King Abdullah. (4) The Faluja garrison would be evacuated and the city taken over by the Israelis.
