PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN PORTUGAL.—The 79-year-old President of Portugal, Marshal Carmona (white moustache), surrounded by his supporters in Lisbon on the eve of the recent Presidential election. Marshal Carmona, who has held office since 1928, was re-elected by an overwhelming majority. His only opponent, General de Matos, alleged that the election was not absolutely free and attempted to-withdraw two days before the poll. The withdrawal was ruled as invalid by the Portuguese Supreme Court.
