FIRE INQUIRY LEGAL COSTS
Sir,—Could his Worship the Mayor, Mr E. Andrews, tell me through “The Press” what was the total fee costs charged by the solicitor who appeared for the City Council at the Ballantyne fire inquiry. What was paid by other public bodies, such as the Christchurch Fire Board?—Yours, etc., J.G.C. February 12, 1949. The Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) said that as the City Council had not received - its bill of costs no reply could be given. The secretary of the Christchurch Fire Board (Mr S. F. Marshall) said that the total cost to the board, including the fee paid to senior and junior counsel, the cost of preparatory investigation, and all incidental expenses, was £2OOO.
