DEFENCE MINISTER’S WARNING (Rec. JO p.m.) CAPE' TOWN, Feb. 19. The South African Defence Minister (Mr F. C. Erasmus) said to-day that Communist penetration was becoming a matter of increasing importance to South Africa’s internal defence. He added that home defence should be a first priority in face of a possible outbreak of Communist lt was the Government’s duty to keep home defence on a level which would ensure that the country would not be caught unawares. Mr Erasmus announced that the membership of defence rifle associations had reached 50,000.
