BOXING
PETERSEN BEATS GORDON (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Feb. 20. By his greater height and reach, as well as superior boxing ability, Laurie Petersen (Australia), 10ft 3Jlb, took a points decision from Clarrie Gordon (New Zealand), lOst 3|lb, in a 12-round professional boxing contest at Petone on Saturday, before a crowd of Sbout 1500. Petersen’s advantage of about five inches over Gordon, plus his southpaw stance, were difficult for the New Zealander to overcome Gordon was out-boxed when standing off. He endeavoured to close in as much as possible, but even in the in-fighting found his opponent a tough proposition
