EXPLOSION FROM NGAURUHOE
OBSERVERS IN DANGER FROM BOULDERS (P.A,' AUCKLAND, February 20. A loud explosion from 'Mount Ngauruhoe about 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon broke the period of comparative quiet. Heavy rain and thick cloud to-day obscured the mountain from view and there were little or no sounds of activity. The shower of ash and rock, which accompanied the explosion on Saturday. covered the mountainside and two men who were examining the lava flow narrowly escaped being struck by huge boulders. Although the mountain was quiet today, a large volume of smoke could be seen from the Chateau, late in the afternoon, rising above the low clouds.
